What is your "why"? What drives you to do this important work each day?

My ancestors, community, family and I consider it to be my life's work helping overturn the historical systemic racist practices in the education system that has been in place from its conception.

What do you enjoy most about your role?

Connecting and building positive relationships, advocating, mentoring, inspiring, motivating students while promoting student achievement academically, socially and otherwise. And being a visible, vocal and viable presence in school for Black students and their families.

What would you most like families to know about the role of Student Support Workers in HRCE schools?

Simply, that we are here for families in any way they need us to be. We hear them and we see them, as we all have lived experience knowing more needs to be done for their children!
